ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Sonni M. King

Sonni is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress from Philadelphia. She has been performing professionally since she was a toddler, doing TV commercials and acting in such shows as One Life to Live and New York Undercover. As a singer, Sonni performed as a solo artist, working with producer/songwriter Al B. Sure, singing vocals on Whitney Houston and rap artist Eve’s albums, and has toured internationally with recording artists Anthony David and Kindred the Family Soul. Sonni is also a trained and accomplished dancer who danced for the NBA for 6 years with the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, and the Atlanta Hawks. She holds a B.A. in Communications and Theater and Dance from Temple University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Clark Atlanta University. Sonni has over 20 years of experience as a dance teacher and is in her 6th year teaching at Frederick Douglass Mastery Charter School, where she is also the athletic director. Her goal is to inspire young aspiring dancers looking to hone their craft in the arts.
